The name of this butterfly is due to the tip of the wings which resembles the head of a snake, perhaps to scare predators. The adult does not feed (the mouthparts do not work) and lives less than a week, the time required to the reproduction. The male possesses highly developed and feather-shaped antennae, useful to sense the pheromones of a female even at the distance of kilometers.
