The Catonephele are characterised by a noticeable difference between males and females (sexual dimorphism). Males are very territorial. They are often observed with open wings, resting on leaves a few meters high to exhibit the bright colours. From their ‘perches’ they control any females passing by to court or rival males to fight off.
