Blue stick insect

The male of this species presents a striking metallic blue color. The female, much larger, is green and blends into the foliage in which she lives and feeds on. If frightened, these insects let themselves fall to the ground pretending to be dead (thanatosis) and, if caught by one leg, they voluntarily amputate it in order to escape from predators (autotomy).
