If a Calvisia feels threatened, she freezes and pretends to be dead. This strategy, known as thanatosis, is usually adopted by prey that no longer have a chance to escape, and is based on the fact that many predators have no interest in dead animals. There are many species of insects that use thanatosis. Often they fall to the ground and remain motionless for a few minutes, just enough time to deceive the observer.
