Emerald Swallowtail

This species is one of the most impressive one can find in a butterfly house. The green colour is due to the iridescent scales on the wings (physical colours). When viewed under a microscope, each green scale appears as a mosaic made up of yellow and blue areas. When seen with the naked eye, these two colours ‘blend’, producing a green effect.
