Kallima is one of the most interesting butterflies to observe in a butterfly house, however it is also one of the most difficult to spot.
Most of the time it keeps its wings closed, hiding itself amongst the vegetation. Its striking resemblance to a dry leaf makes it difficult to spot. With open wings, on the other hand, it exhibits bright colours (useful for communicating with other Kallima), but this rarely happens. If you happen to see one with open wings, try to approach it slowly to prevent it from ‘disappearing’ by simply closing its wings.
