It is one of the few non-poisonous species that exhibits a showy coloration on both sides of the wings. With open wings, it displays an unusual green and black, while with closed wings it shows a multicoloured pattern. What makes the Malachite even more fascinating is the co-existence of another species which, though unrelated, shows the same colouration and inhabits the same areas. Both are fast-flying species, so this could be a case of elusive mimicry.
