Purple Mort Bleu

They are related to the more famous owl butterflies. The male exhibits an intense blue colour, visible only from a certain angle (physical colours). The female has a duller colouration, which is common amongst butterflies. With closed wings, this species blends in with the environment (crypsis) and exhibits a pattern that resembles an eye: a defence against predators.
