In addition to fruit, it also feeds on pollen and nectar, thus playing a role in the pollination of some plants. As an adaptation to this particular diet, it has evolved a very characteristic tongue, ending with a sort of a brush, allowing the lorikeet to extract pollen and nectar from flowers.
