This species is easily recognizable. Its colouring has numerous advantages. It’s open wings are showy, making it easy to identify by other individuals of the same species, with which it must reproduce or compete (since the males are territorial). The white bands on the underwings make it recognisable even when backlit (when in flight and observed from below).
