Stag beetles belong to the order of coleoptera. They are characterized by a marked sexual dimorphism: the females are much smaller and secretive, while males have developed massive jaws, often longer than the rest of the body. They use them as a weapon in fights with other males, to conquer females. The adults feed on plant sap and fruit.
